Bob Shannon Memorial Award

Bob Shannon was the mainstay of Antrim Coast Lions Club throughout the 80's and as secretary he kept the club active through some of the leaner years.

Acting as district governor on two occasions, Bob could have gone for even higher office within Lions International had he wished.

As owner of the local chip shop he affectionately earned the nickname "Bob lard" and was a well known character in the area. Described as generous to a fault, Bob often went above and beyond what was required of him in his voluntary role as a Lion. Bob routinely volunteered his time to help others out, not seeking reward or recognition and never mentioning it to other club members.

In 1992 Bob passed away and is sadly missed by the whole village as well as fellow Lions members throughout Ireland. Due to his tireless commitment to the Lions Club and to helping others the award was created in his memory.

The Bob Shannon Memorial Award acknowledges people doing amazing things in our local communities that deserve to be recognised.
